Flight's Skating Sessions Rules

Flight's Freestyle and Public Session Rules

Skaters, please be mindful of the rules. If you have any questions, please review with your coach. Coaches, please ensure to review the rules with ALL your skaters. Unless specifically noted, the following reminders apply to freestyle and public sessions.

General Etiquette:

  • If you are on the ice before Learn to Skate classes (freestyle 5-6pm on Thursday; freestyle 7:30-8:30am on Saturday; or group class 8:30-9am on Saturday), please pack up your belongings and remove them from the benches so that there is room for LTS skaters to put on and remove their skates. Belongings can be carried into the rink or put by the wall where the black cubbies are located.
  • Please do not sit on the boards.
  • Please try to get up as soon as possible after a fall as lying or sitting on the ice for long periods of time can be a hazard to other skaters.
  • Please limit the use of cell phones on the ice.

Music Rules:

  • Skaters may only play their music twice per freestyle session. Skaters with both a short and long program may have each program played twice.
  • Skaters may not play their music back-to-back (unless there is nobody waiting).
  • Once a skater has started a program, they may not decide to stop midway and start over. If a skater feels that they need to stop skating halfway through their program run, it must be understood that it will still count toward the allowed number of times a program can be played during a session which is 2 times.
  • Skaters and coaches may use the club sound system during weekday public sessions (Monday through Friday until 5pm). If the director determines that a public session (during these times) is too busy, the music will be turned off. If the director is not present, then rink management will determine if the music needs to be turned off.
  • DO NOT start a program’s music if there is 2 minutes or less left in the session. If the Zamboni is late getting on the ice due to a skater’s program running overtime, the next session starts late. This applies to freestyle and public sessions.
  • For public sessions, portable speakers cannot be used at any time from Friday after 5 pm through Sunday evening. (The rink does not allow program run-throughs to music between Friday at 5pm through Sunday evening.)
  • Portable speakers cannot be used when skaters are using the club sound system.
  • Portable speakers may be used at other times (not Friday after 5pm through Sunday evening AND not when the club sound system is being used). Music must be kept at a minimum sound level so as not to disturb other skaters on the session.
  • Skaters may wear earbuds in one ear ONLY to ensure that at least one ear is available to allow them to be aware of their surroundings.

Sashes for Freestyle session only:

  • During freestyle sessions, it is required that the skater running a program wears a sash around the waist. This will let everyone on the session know who is running a program and watch out for them.
  • There are a few sashes kept in the locked music box in the timekeeper’s section. The additional sashes are so that the skater(s) waiting to go next can wear the sash in preparation while waiting on the current skater running a program.
  • There is also a small whiteboard, by the music box, for skaters to put their name on if they intend to run their program. It helps everyone on the session know who goes next.

Waiver on file:

Please make sure to have a waiver on file with Flight in order to skate or jump on the trampoline. Waivers expire after 12 months or when updated.
